Four Temporary Solutions To Stop Roof Leaks While Waiting On Repairs

If you have a roof leak, sometimes you may need to wait to have repairs done. Rain can cause a lot of problems with your roof leaks and you may want to do something to prevent more damage in the meantime. Here are some tips to help you temporarily repair your roof leaks:

1. Temporarily Replacing Loose And Missing Shingles

There are some problems that can cause shingles to come loose and need to be replaced. This can be due to wind damage or just plain wear. When you have loose shingles, you will want to replace them with shingles to temporarily fix the problem before you can have the problem fixed. You can just use single tab shingles and slide them under the area where shingles are missing. Just put two nails in them to hold them in place until repairs are done.

2. Adding Ridge Caps To Stop Roof Leaks At Their Peaks

Ridges are another place where roofs can leak. This can be due to wear and other damage. If this happens, you will want to cover the damaged area. This can be done by cutting shingles into single tabs and nailing them over the area of the ridge that is damaged. Keep the nails covered and wherever there is an exposed nail, add a dab of asphalt sealant to seal the repair.

3. Using Roofing Cement To Repair Small Holes In Shingles

Roofing cement comes in many different products, which can be paint cans or tubes of caulking. If you need to repair small leaks, a tube of asphalt roof patch can be good for repairing small holes in shingles and other light repairs. The paint cans can be good to add a seal to torn shingles that need to be repaired.

4. Installing A Tarp To Cover Up Severe Roofing Damage

If you have extensive damage on your roof, doing your own temporary repairs may not be practical. For these situations, you can install a tarp on your roof to prevent further leaking. To do this, get a construction tarp and fasten it to your roof by nailing 2x4s around the edges of the tarp. This will hold it down and prevent serious leaks.

These are some tips to help you temporarily repair roof leaks. If you have a problem with your roofing, contact a roof repair service such as Allen Roofing & Construction Inc to have them do the repairs you need as soon as possible.
